New illustration based on my favorite Bukowski poem, “Bluebird”
there’s a bluebird in my heart that
wants to get out
but I’m too tough for him,
I say, stay in there, I’m not going
to let anybody see
you.there’s a bluebird in my heart that
wants to get out
but I pur whiskey on him and inhale
cigarette smoke
and the whores and the bartenders
and the grocery clerks
never know that
he’s
in there…
South of No North may be my next read. I was introduced to Bukowski not long ago, and I’m glad because I’m on a reading kick now. (I’m not as voracious a reader as I’d like to be, but I’m pushing myself towards it.) I mentioned the poet to my cousin’s husband, and he lent me the aforementioned book when I visited. He said that it’s some of his earlier stories. Whatever it is, I’m down.
You know, libraries are great, but borrowing books from someone who’s raving about right in front of you just feels more organic. For music, books, blogs, it’s all the same: enthusiasm is contagious.
Case in point: Bloody brilliant illustration!
